MURALI KUMAR

Murali Kumar is a well
-respected professional bodybuilder from Kerala, India. He’s known for his complete dedication to the bodybuilding lifestyle, which has allowed him to rise to the top of the Indian rankings.

While Murali’s large and well-proportioned physique is a testament to his hard work in the gym, he’s had to juggle weightlifting with his two day jobs. He has worked as both a software engineer and a naval seaman; injuring his leg in the navy, where he begun a strength training program to avoid further injury.

It was this strength training that sparked Murali’s passion for the gym. He began to build his physique, and was constantly inspired by his friends to push himself towards professional competitions. He did so, and managed to win several amateur shows, before winning Mr India in 2013.

Murali has since won several more professional competitions, claiming his spot as one of the best bodybuilders in India. He’s always looking to help other Indian bodybuilders reach their goals – just like he did. This is his story:

Biography

Growing Up In India

Murali Kumar was born and raised in Kottayam in Kerala – a state on India’s Malabar tropical coast. He had a very lively upbringing, playing a number of sports including cricket and soccer, but his main passions were electronics and fixing computers.

This interest in electronics led Murali to study software engineering. He enjoyed this course a lot and became a software engineer in his local town; but in his words, he wanted to do something more “active” with his life.

The Indian Navy

This need for physical activity inspired Murali to join the Indian Navy. He greatly enjoyed this new career path, but he unfortunately broke his leg during training, which forced him out of service. As part of the recovery process, the doctor advised him to take up strength training to re-build his leg muscles.

The doctors order to attend the gym became Murali’s new passion – almost immediately. He loved every aspect of the fitness lifestyle; the dedication needed, the nutritional element and the weightlifting itself.

Early Life

Yatinder Singh was born and raised in Saharanpur, UP. He belongs to a Gurjar family. From an early age, Yatinder believed his physical state of being under-weight as a conundrum. During his high school and college life, He took up body-building seriously and was guided by his coach towards the necessary physical training with the combination of indoor and outdoor training sessions. These sessions marked the beginning of Yatinder’s bodybuilding career.

Bodybuilding Career

The year 2001 marked the beginning of Yatinder’s Bodybuilding career. After Winning his first Championship in 2002, he was inspired to pursue Bodybuilding professionally, to take part in several body-building and fitness competitions taking place within India and later Internationally.

Yatinder was mentored by Mr Keshav Sharma, Owner of Body Temple Gym and Tejaswa Sports Nutrition who introduced and trained him into the body-building enterprise.

Major Injury

Yatinder had started preparing for Mr. Asia 2005 on president’s insistence. However, Yatinder soon started overworking himself. One evening while working out he got seriously injured due to negligence of a helping boy. Yatinder’s lower back vertebrae (bones in the spine) had ruptured and this had caused nerve injuries. The broken discs and the associated nerve injury had paralysed his right hand and leg by about 30 percent. As a result of this injury, he was bedridden for months.

Recovery and Career as Gym Trainer and Owner

Owing to this terrible incident Yatinder had to stay away from bodybuilding for the next 3 years. However, he still could not work out as he had a weakened spine. To become financially independent he soon started working as a personal trainer in a gym in Meerut, U.P. In 2008, he moved to Gurgaon and opened Otwo Gym and Spa, in partnership with one of his close friends.

Second Chance in Bodybuilding

By 2008, Yatinder's back had recovered substantially and he decided to give bodybuilding another shot. He started researching and studying techniques that could help him to work out without straining himself. He completed ACE and ACSM training courses and using the knowledge of human body and muscles he started working out again. In 2010, Yatinder made his way to the stage again. In this year, he won at least 6 to 7 championships like Mr UP Overall title, Mr North India, Senior Mr India title in 75 kg category. He was also the first runner-up in the overall Sr. Mr India. In 2010, he bagged the title of the Best Improved Bodybuilder and this was no less than a miracle for Yatinder.
