However earning laurels for his country has neither given him due recognition nor changed life for the better, as Nitin, still struggles to find a foothold. Expressing his displeasure over being ignored, Nitin says, “Apart from this world title, I have won a number of other National titles, but it hurts when our own government does not bother to recognize such achievements. Life would have been much easier for me if the authorities had shown kindness by giving jobs to sportsmen like me.”

A graduate in Arts from S.N. College, Nitin requires nearly Rs.30000 per month to fund his nutritional requirements and keep his sport going – especially six months ahead of taking part in any event, this besides other regular expenses. He  currently works as an instructor at his friend’s gymnasium in Bhayandar (West).

“Leave aside offering any help, nobody including local elected representatives have come to even give him a pat of encouragement. If this is the way we treat our champions, we shouldn’t expect miracles at the Olympics or any other  World championships,”
